Oskaloosa’s Gibb Whitlatch came within one stroke of qualifying for this weekend’s state golf tournament as he finished fifth at a Class 4A district tournament at Blank Golf Course.

Whitlatch shot a 78 to lead the Indians to a fifth-place finish as they carded a 334 total.

West Des Moines Dowling Catholic was the team champion with a 312 total while the Maroons’ Marc Wampler was meet medalist with a 74.

Tyler Smith followed Whitlatch with an 80 while Mitch Tucker came in with an 82. Alex Heaton shot a 94 and Jake McCrea carded a 95.
