Grandview and Urbandale, both Des Moines area teams, have secured spots in the title game of the Iowa State Little League Baseball Tournament. Both are undefeated as they head into Wednesday night’s final pool game. Regardless of who wins the two will still be in Thursday’s championship.

The tournament will continue play through Wednesday as pool play. Following Wednesday’s games, the top two teams in the 9-10 division will face each other on Thursday night for the championship at 7 p.m. and the right to advance to the regional tourney.

9-10 tourney results

Johnston 5, Davenport Northwest 3

Johnston scored four runs in the fourth inning and a security run in the fifth to edge undefeated Davenport Northwest, 5-3 Tuesday.

Luke Grzech and Brock Studer had singles for Johnston.

Logan Brentise-Hunt hit two singles and for Davenport. Donaven Juarez added three singles.

Sioux City Northwest 6, Indianola 0

Sioux City Northwest scored six times in the second inning and tossed a shutout of Indianola, 6-0 Tuesday.

Nicholas Jacobs, Aaron Eybers, Blake Farber, Nick Swanson and Tom Marino hit singles for Sioux City.

Ben Krapfel hit two singles for Indianola.

11-12 tourney results

Fox River 6, Boone National 2

Fox River picked up their first win of the state tournament with a 6-2 victory over Boone National.

Fox River held Boone National scoreless through four innings before they scored twice. Tyson Sprouse led the charge for Fox River with a single and home run. Robert Barker and Wil Mertens also singled.

Drew Wilker doubled and Danny Anderson, Jackson Hull and Ian Herrick singled for Boone.

Grandview 17, Sergeant Bluff-Luton 4

Grandview collected 16 hits and scored 17 runs en route to a 17-4 victory over Sergeant Bluff-Luton. The victory secured a spot in Thursday’s championship game against Urbandale.

Kenny Randolph hit a single, triple and homerun to pace Grandview. Rodney Rummens hit a single and home run and Jeremy Bently hit a pair of roundtrippers. Devan Winterbottom doubled and hit two singles.

Conner Prescott, Corey Mather, Keegan Putman, Adam Kascht and Jacob Schultz singled for SBL.

Urbandale 9, Davenport East 7

It was the night for the long ball in the final 11-12 year old game Tuesday night. Urbandale opened the game with a single and two-run shot and scored four runs in the first inning and Davenport East answered with six runs in the bottom of the first including a two-run shot of their own.

In the end it was Urbandale taking a 9-7 victory and locking themselves into Thursday night’s championship against crosstown rivals Grandview.

The game included strong hitting performances, but equally as strong defensive performances by both teams.

Ross Kramer had a two-run homer and a double, while Matt Johnson hit a homer, single and double to pace Urbandale. For good measure Keegan Perez added a two-run shot for the insurance runs.

Billy Betsworth hit a two-run homer for Davenport East. Ryan Lorber and Alec Capshaw hit a single and double. Brady Cartee added two singles.
