Mami Selemani won by fall Tuesday

HASTINGS, Neb. — Mami Selemani (So., Iowa City, Iowa, Business Management) won by fall and two of her teammates earned forfeits, but the William Penn women's wrestling team could not get past Hastings in a 35-15 non-conference loss Tuesday.

On a night that only included falls or forfeits, WPU (0-1) dropped its first dual of the campaign.

After the Broncos claimed forfeits at 101 and 109 pounds, the visitors got on the board at 116 pounds as Catherine Steinkamp (Fr., Quincy, Ill., Biology) had her hand raised by forfeit.

123-pounder Selemani then evened the score at 10-10 by pinning Abbi Link in just 34 seconds. Lydia Nelson (Fr., Kirksville, Mo.) extended William Penn's success by picking up another forfeit to make it 15-10.

Unfortunately, the remainder of the contest went in favor of Hastings as the host squad won the final five bouts.

In exhibition action, Brittany Cotter (Fr., Katy, Texas, Nursing) and Kylie Martin (Fr., Marshfield, Mo., Biology) both won by fall in their showdowns.
