OSKALOOSA — The William Penn University Athletics Booster Club has announced the recipients of the October Player of the Month laurels.

Junior men’s soccer player Gianmarco Centrella (Rome Italy, Sports Management) earned the Male award, while freshman women’s volleyball player Alyvia Johnson (Owatonna, Minn., Elementary Education) claimed the Female honor. The accolade is the first for both student-athletes.

Centrella tallied eight goals in eight games as the Statesmen went 7-1, tying the longest winning streak (7) in program history. Three of his goals were game-winners, while his month was highlighted by a three-goal hat trick against Mount Mercy. The junior also added an assist for 17 total points in October.

In 13 matches, Johnson tallied 135 kills (3.21 per set) on a .140 attack clip. She also managed 107 digs (2.55 per set) in addition to 21 blocks, seven assists, and six aces. The freshman posted seven double-digit kill performances (all seven outings had 13 kills each) along with three double-doubles (kills and digs) with a high of 27 digs versus Mount Mercy. She led William Penn to a 9-4 record during October.
