OSKALOOSA – North Mahaska’s softball team stepped up in classes to face a couple larger school foes Saturday in Oskaloosa. The Warhawks fell 1-0 to Newton in the first game and lost 6-0 to Mount Vernon.

North Mahaska picked up three hits against Newton, all singles. Newton’s two hits were also singles. Juniors Morgan Hudson and Breanna Fogle, and sophomore Jalayna Shipley were credited with hits.

Senior Madison McKay took the loss allowing a run on the two hits, three walks, and a hit batsman. She struck out 10.

Mount Vernon scored all of its runs in the middle three innings. They scored three in the top of the third, two in the fourth and one in the fifth.

Shipley, Fogle, junior Alyssa Scheilhing and eighth grader Regan Grewe each hit singles for NM. McKay walked and earned a stolen base.

McKay and Hudson each pitched. They combined for four walks and five strikeouts.

North Mahaska (4-3) has a busy week with four games in five days. They travel to HLV Monday, Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont Tuesday, Iowa Valley Wednesday and hosts Sigourney Friday. Friday’s contest will start at 5 p.m. due to New Sharon Spring Festival.
