OSKALOOSA ? A 16-year-old Oskaloosan won second place at a demolition derby in Kansas recently.

Levi Holdsworth and his family traveled eight hours to Ellsworth, Kan., to compete against his uncle, Jim Beal, formerly of Oskaloosa.

There were about a dozen cars in the compact main and it came down to Holdsworth and Beal.

They lasted about five minutes until Holdsworth?s car caught fire which called the red flag and him to get out of the car.

When the first was out, Holdsworth?s car wouldn?t start and Beal was awarded first place and Holdsworth took second.

Holdsworth placed third place in the compact cars class at the Southern Iowa Fairgrounds in Oskaloosa before leaving for Kansas.
