PELLA — The Oskaloosa cross country teams were in action Saturday at the Pella Invitational at Central College.
Both teams finished 10th out of 18 in a very talented field.
The bots had 282 points as Gilbert claimed the team title by one point over Norwalk while the girls had 250 points with Mid-Prairie taking the team title.
Patrick DeRonde ran a great race to lead the boys in a time of 17:54 to finish 23rd in a field of 271 runners. William Leonard was 45th in 18:50.9 while Kadin Gerard came in 49th in the time of 18:59.0. Aden Scott was 80th in 19:51.8, Jack Dawson came in 85th in 19:59.2, Phillip Abrahamson was 86th in 20:06.2 and Caden Ayala came in 90th in 20:15.0.
Other Oskaloosa finishers were Keygan Roberts (123rd in 20:39.8), Hayden Nienkerk (125th in 20:44.2), Andrew Otto (156th in 21:17.6), Zach Tarr (160th in 21:22.4), Colton Eaton (173rd in 21:47.9), Jaison Anderson (185th in 22:15.1), Sage Cochran (191st in 22:31.8), lawson Morris (194th in 22:36.2), Ryan Walter (205th in 23:01.), Elliott Nelson (208th in 23:05.5), Elliott Adam (215th in 23:28.4) and Ethan Herr (246th in 25:09.7).
The girls were led by the trio of Sage Adam, Addi Carter, and Abby Lumsden.
Adam ran 22:47.1 to come in 36th as Carter was 38th in 22:51.4 and Lumsden came in 43rd in 23:11.1. Addy Dykstra placed 74th in 25:29.2 while Olivia Stodghill was 79th in 25:50.4, Paiven Knoot finished 90th in 27:12.6 and Hayley Westercamp was 94th in 27:41.6. Other finishers included Brooke Allen (128th in 28:06.8) and Trisha Van Donselaar (143rd in 29:03.9).
“We ran excellent today. Last week we ran a great first mile of our races and our focus was on improving our tactics in the second mile,” Oskaloosa coach Mike Comfort said “The kids rose up to that challenge and crushed it. This led to our big improvements today. This team keeps getting better and better and I am already looking forward to the next meet.
“Patrick ran an outstanding race today. That is a great place and time for this course. He has a great future ahead of him if he continues to challenge himself each day.”
The Indians are in action again on Thursday at Fairfield
