PELLA — After a bit of a rebuilding year in 2019, the Pella volleyball team returns all but one starter from last season’s 18-19 squad.
The Lady Dutch will have a new head coach on the bench this year in Mallory Peterson, who takes over after being the freshman coach last season.
Returning for Pella will be seniors Macy Schulz, Rose Vanderhoff, Brynn Randol and Courtney Paxton along with juniors Anna Vander Waal, Bailey Van Voorst, Ella Corbin, Emily McMartin, Meridith Rowe, Payton Turner and sophomore Jasmine Namminga.
Van Voorst was a first team all-conference selection last year while Vander Waal earned second team all-conference honors.
Van Voorst was the go-option on offense as she registered 276 kills with a 13.9% kill efficiency. She was also second on the team in blocks (39) and digs (159) while also leading the team with 46 aces.
Vander Waal served as the setter and was a good one with 643 assists on the year. She also proved to be solid defensively with 25 blocks and 147 digs.
Those two should help lead the way again with an experienced squad returning for the Lady Dutch.
Pella finished fifth in the conference tournament last year and suffered their first losing season since 2014. They look poised to get back in the winning column and near the top of the conference this season.
