WAVERLY — Stymied by a slow start, the Central College women’s golf team slipped two spots to finish 15th at the 17-team Wartburg Fall Invitational Sunday.
The Dutch closed at 323-336—659 at the par-72 Prairie Links Golf Course. St. Catherine University (Minn.) shot 297-305—602 to hold off No. 8 Carleton College (Minn.) which was second at 304-304—608. Host Wartburg was the top American Rivers finisher, placing 10th at 319-312—631 with the University of Dubuque 13th at 325-327—652 and Luther College 14th at 327-327—654.
Lexie Patton followed up her career-low 74 from Saturday with 77 to tie for 12th at 151, nine shots out of the top spot.
Emily Opsal followed with 76-84--160 while Rachael Danielson had 87-83—170, Madison Clark shot 86-92--178 and Stacy Mohr had 90-99--189.
“We didn’t get off to a very good start on the front nine,” coach Tim Wilkinson said. “We had way too many big numbers. Even Lexie was a bit frustrated with the inability to finish holes. We just couldn’t score today.”
The Dutch will make their first appearance in recent years at the Illinois Wesleyan Fall Classic at 9 a.m. next Saturday and Sunday at the par-72 Ironwood Golf Course in Normal, Illinois. About 20 teams are expected.
“We’ll try to get a full week of practice and see how we can improve,” Wilkinson said.
