PELLA—Piloting the team to a pair of American Rivers Conference victories last week, Central College women’s basketball forward Kendall Brown (senior, Moravia) was named the American Rivers Conference female athlete of the week Monday afternoon.
Brown also was named the league’s women’s basketball player of the week. It’s the second time she has been given the honor in 2019-20, previously being recognized on January 20.
The Dutch beat Luther College on Wednesday 58-56 for the first time since 2014 and Brown chipped in with 20 points, seven rebounds and three blocks. Trailing by 18 on Saturday against Nebraska Wesleyan University, Central rallied for an 82-75 win and Brown scored 12 points with six rebounds and three blocks.
Brown shot 58.3% from the field last week and is currently No. 7 in Division III field goal percentage (62.2%) for the season. She also is No. 13 in blocked shots with 66.
With the victories, Central secured its spot in the conference tournament for the first time since the 2004-05 season.
The Dutch are back in action Wednesday for the regular season finale against Buena Vista University in Storm Lake at 5:30 p.m.
