One key player for Oskaloosa

Senior linebacker Colin Snitker will have a good challenge this week against the Burlington run game, which has tallied a Class 4A-high 722 yards through the first two weeks. Snitker is fourth on the team in tackles with 6.5 so far. He will have to fill gaps well and not allow Burlington’s running backs to break tackles. If Oskaloosa slows down the running game, Snitker will likely be a big reason for that.

Keys for Oskaloosa

No secrets here, the Burlington run game will be top priority. The Grayhounds have averaged over 8.5 yards per carry with nine touchdowns through two games. Bryant Williams has rushed for 432 yards (11.4 yards) per carry and has accounted for seven of those touchdowns. Burlington has only had to pass it 11 times through two games, something Oskaloosa will hope to change with their run defense, which has given up an average of 96 yards per game. Offensively, expect the Indians to continue to balance their looks. Quarterback Keaton Flaherty will have to be smart again with his passes against a team that can grab picks. Oskaloosa has done a nice job mixing in the run with Darryl Fane and the power run with Wyatt Grubb. But once they catch you creeping up, Flaherty can beat you deep over the top to Waylon Bolibaugh. Both sides are looking to continue a huge turnaround as Burlington hasn’t won more than two games in a season since 2016 and Oskaloosa is off to their first 2-0 start in the VarsityBound era (since 2006) and are looking to get back to their winning ways in recent seasons after going 2-6 last year.
