OSKALOOSA — The William Penn University Athletics Booster Club has announced the recipients of the January Player of the Month awards.
Sophomore men’s track and field athlete Jackson Coates (Aldie, Va., Engineering Technology) (Houston, Texas, Information Technology) earned the Male award, while sophomore women's track and field athlete Shaniah Newby (Twentynine Palms, Calif., Nursing) claimed the Female honor. The accolade is the first for Coates, while Newby is now a two-time winner.
In three meets, Coates took home three event titles, including one at the Northwest Open. He also placed fourth once and fifth twice. The sophomore posted top marks of 6.62 seconds in the 55-meter dash, 23.12 seconds in the 200-meter dash, 22-1 in the long jump, and 45-9.25 in the triple jump.
In two meets, Newby claimed a pair of event crowns, while also placing 10th and 14th. The sophomore managed top marks of 7.49 seconds in the 55-meter dash, 8.00 seconds in the 60-meter dash, and 26.43 seconds in the 200-meter dash.
