PELLA — First-ever meetings with St. Olaf College (Minn.) and Kalamazoo College (Mich.) kick off the Central College football schedule.
The Dutch posted a 2-0 mark in a modified spring campaign. In 2019, Central was 10-2, winning a share of a record 31st conference championship and making its 21st NCAA Division III playoff appearance.
Central opens Sept. 4 at Northfield, Minnesota against St. Olaf. The Oles’ spring slate was limited to a non-scored scrimmage but were 5-5 in 2019.
The Dutch play the first of five home games Sept. 11, taking on Kalamazoo. The Hornets were 0-2 in the spring and 2-8 in 2019 but were 7-3 in 2018.
“We’re excited to play two new teams this year,” coach Jeff McMartin said. “The St. Olaf staff does a great job and they should have a solid football team this fall. The Kalamazoo staff is very good as well. They’ve made a lot of strides as a program. It’s unfortunate we could not play them last year when we were originally scheduled to play.”
The Dutch face four American Rivers opponents at home, including a homecoming match-up with Wartburg College Oct. 2. The Knights shared the 2019 season crown with Central.
