PELLA — The Pella girls soccer team faced off against Nevada Thursday night at the Pella Soccer Complex. The Lady Dutch got off to a strong start but three second half goals from the Cubs would give the visitors a 4-3 win.

Early on it was a back and forth battle until Nevada (5-5) used a series of good passes and capitalized, putting them on the board with 29 minutes left in the half.

Not long after Pella (6-3) would answer when Erin Nossaman followed a deflected shot off the goalie and calmly found the back of the net, tying the game back up at 1.

After a couple of saves from Pella’s Hailey Van Houweling, they would take the lead off a goal from Ashley Hardman. The goal was set up by a well-placed crossing pass from Abby Warner that Hardman put just to the right of the goalie. Giving the Lady Dutch their first lead with nine minutes to go in the half.

Five minutes later Warner would get a goal of her own to extend the lead for the Lady Dutch. Warner took a one-hop pass from Annika Peterson and firmly sent it into the top right corner of the net, extending the lead to 3-1.

Another save from Van Houweling with 15 seconds left in the half took the game to halftime.

The second half started much like the first when Nevada found the back of the net 11 minutes in. This time the visitors took advantage of a deep free kick that Contessa Borwick put just over the outstretched arms of Van Houweling.

Four minutes later the Cubs would tie the game after miscommunication from Pella defenders led to an open shot. Bringing the score to 3-3 with 25 minutes left.

The two teams would then trade saves and a nice shot from Warner would just miss the right post keeping the game tied until the final minutes.

With one minute left Borwick suddenly put another deep shot into the back of the net, her third goal of the night gave the Cubs a late lead.

Despite a last-second threat from the Pella offense the lead would hold.

The Lady Dutch will look to bounce back on Tuesday, as they travel to Dallas Center-Grimes.
