PELLA — Central College receiver Tanner Schminke (fifth-year, Boone) was named to the D3football.com Team of the Week following his performance in a 46-27 season-opening victory at St. Olaf College (Minn.) Saturday.

Meanwhile the Dutch dropped two spots to No. 16 in the D3football.com Top 25.

Schminke was cited as a special teams standout. A former quarterback, Schminke serves as a holder for placekicks and Saturday pulled off a fake field goal, tossing a 25-yard touchdown pass to tight end Billy Friis (senior, West Branch). Schminke also caught one pass for three yards.

Central, which was No. 14 in the D3football.com preseason rankings, dropped two spots in this week’s poll. American Rivers rival Wartburg College is No. 15. The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (Texas) remains at No. 1.

The Dutch play their home season opener Saturday against Kalamazoo College (Mich) at 1 p.m. at Ron and Joyce Schipper Stadium.
