PELLA — Pella’s Will Simpson recently signed his letter of intent to continue his academic and golf career at Division I Troy University in Troy, Alabama.
Simpson, who is coming off a fantastic year on the course that saw him win the Little Hawkeye Conference individual title and earn a top 10 medal at state. In addition to those spring milestones, Simpson won the Iowa Junior PGA Open Championship at 9-under thanks to rounds of 66 and 69 as well as the John Deere Classic Junior Open with a 4-under 140 over the summer.
Simpson is the No. 113 ranked player nationally in the class of 2022 and the No. 4 player in Iowa as ranked by the American Junior Golf Association.
Simpson will join a Troy program led by Forrest Schultz, who is moving the Trojans in the right direction after his first season with the program. The Trojans posted a 40-36-1 head-to-head record in the fall, which is a nine-win improvement from last year’s mark. Troy also had five rounds under par as a team after only posting four such occasions in the previous three seasons.
"Will is going to be a great addition to our program," Schultz said in a press release. "He is a top-five player in the state of Iowa, who has a lot of firepower and the ability to take it low any day of the week. In addition, both of Will's parents are Troy alums, and they all bleed Trojan Cardinal."
