PELLA — Pella Christian’s Luke Mulder signed his letter of intent Wednesday to continue his academic and football career at Minnesota State University in Mankato, Minnesota.
The 6-foot-6, 225 pound defensive end led the Eagles to a 6-4 record and a playoff appearance this season.
During his senior year, Mulder broke multiple school records including the record for sacks in a career (15) and tackles for loss in a season (21), which were also most in 1A.
He had 7.5 sacks (tied for third in 1A) in his senior season alone, where he also recorded 69 tackles, earning him first team all-district and second team all-state honors.
The three-year starter on defense will be missed in an Eagles uniform. He will now represent Pella Christian as a Maverick.
The NCAA Division II powerhouse had their season cancelled this year due to COVID-19 but the Mavericks are looking to continue their recent success.
Since the start of the 2017 season, they are 40-3. Every one of those losses has ended a season, including an eight-point loss in the 2019 National Championship game.
