PELLA — Pella Christian’s Jase Amelse signed his letter of intent on Thursday to continue his academic and football career at Northwestern College in Orange City.

Amelse helped the Eagles to a 5-5 record a year ago that included a trip to the playoffs where they would fall 38-12 to Van Meter.

Amelse played linebacker and running back for Pella Christian. As a senior, he would finish third on the team in tackles with 43 while also collecting 2.5 tackles for loss and one fumble recovery.

On offense, he was second on the team in rushing with 547 yards on 96 carries (5.7 yards per carry) with seven touchdowns. He also caught 14 passes for 177 yards and two touchdowns.

Over his high school career, he was a two-year starter on offense totaling 1,006 rushing yards on 209 carries (4.8 yards per carry) with 13 touchdowns. Amelse was a three-year starter on defense with career toal of 162.5 tackles, two sacks, 14 tackles for loss, two sacks, one fumble recovery and one interception.

Amelse joins the Northwestern football team that finished 9-2 a year ago, losing to No. 9 Saint Xavier 25-20 in the first round of the NAIA playoffs.
