PELLA — The Eagles hosted one of the top teams in 4A to Eagle Lane on Wednesday as Pella Christian battled but ultimately fell to No. 5 Dallas Center-Grimes, 11-6.
DCG opened the game with two runs in the top of the first inning but PC was not to be outdone as they responded with three runs of their own in the bottom of the inning thanks to a three-run blast to left-center by Natalie Harrill, her fifth home run of the season.
Both teams went down in order before DCG tied the game at three in the third. But a big fourth inning would tilt the balance of the game.
DCG used five hits on their way to a five-run fourth to open up an 8-3 lead. PC was able to get a couple back on a two-RBI single to left from Emma Eekhoff while Harrill’s RBI double to left cut the deficit to 8-6 after five innings.
DCG got three big insurance runs in the sixth to get some more breathing room late in the contest as they were able to retire the last seven Eagle batters in order to close out the win.
Harrill led the PC offense going 3-for-3 with four RBIs and a triple short of the cycle. Emri Agre had two hits for the Eagles while Eekhoff drove home two.
Pella Christian (10-13, 3-11 LHC) will head to Newton (12-13, 4-11 LHC) on Friday for a doubleheader starting at 5:30 p.m.
