The Pella Christian backfield lines up for a play against I-35.

PELLA — The Eagle offense erupted for 49 first half points on their way to a 63-34 win over Colfax-Mingo, securing second place in the division and a home game for the first round of the playoffs.

Pella Christian used 280 yards and seven touchdowns on the ground to lead the charge. Cody Boender would run for 125 yards on eight carries with three of those going for touchdowns.

Issac Kacmarynski had 43 yards and two touchdowns on the ground while throwing for 91 yards and another touchdown, a 50-yard pass and catch to Drew Geetings.

Hayden Te Grotenhuis and Lucas Hol also had rushing touchdowns while Luke Mulder returned a punt 58 yards for a touchdown.

The Eagle defense held the Tigerhawks to seven points at the half before cycling through the bench in the second half.

Pella Christian tied for the district title with Mount Ayr at 4-1 but the Raiders get the automatic bye after owning the tiebreaker due to them beating the Eagles earlier this season.

Pella Christian (4-3) is set to host Hudson (2-5) in the first round of the playoffs on Friday at 7 p.m.
