Johnathon Terpstra

Oskaloosa's Johnathon Terpstra had a round of 88 in Tuesday's tournament.

OSKALOOSA — 15 teams were in attendance at Edmundson Golf Course for the Oskaloosa Invitational on Tuesday. The 90 boys battled some tough conditions with wind, firm greens and some dry weather that led to some high scoring.

Oskaloosa took fifth place with a score of 349, Pella finished one shot ahead with a score of 348 and a medalist honor while Pella Christian grabbed 13th with a team score of 390.

The Indians’ low scorer on the day was Joe Glasgow, who finished 15th with a round of 84. Finishing closely behind him was Carter Parks (86) and Johnathon Terpstra (88).

Tucker DeJong would card a 91 while Keaton Flaherty and Ryan Carriker both finished with 92’s.

“We are seeing improvement in some of our scores, we just need to get everyone scoring well on the same day and success will come,” Oskaloosa head coach Bret Foster said. “Once we start avoiding the big blow-up holes, we will see our scores improve.”

Pella’s Will Simpson brought home the medalist honors for the second time in career at this event after beating out Mount Pleasant’s Brevin Wilson in the second playoff hole after both players had rounds of 77.

Finishing close behind him was Ayden Gordon, whose round of 82 was good enough for 10th.

Clayton Henry (93), AJ Hoekstra (96), Thomas Tangen (98) and Keagan Miedema (110) would round out the Pella lineup.

The Eagles of Pella Christian also competed on Tuesday. Kyle Gao finished with the team’s low score of 90 while Game Huisken and Isaiah Breems both carded 98’s.

Mason Westercamp finished with a 104 while Caleb Van Arendonk shot 14 shots better on the back than he did on the front for a round of 106 and Zaylor Rus finished with a 108.

Oskaloosa and Pella will go to Moravia on Thursday at 10 a.m. while Pella Christian travels to Knoxville on Saturday at 9 a.m.
