GRIMES — Pella continued their early season start against strong 4A competition and they continue to look good as they had another big effort on a beautiful day at the Mustang Classic at Dallas Center-Grimes on Saturday.
Headlining the day for the Lady Dutch was their 4x100 of Delanie Reynolds, Roselande Vanderhoff, Marissa Hackman and Emily McMartin winning their race with a time of 49.90 to finish under the blue standard and qualify for the Drake Relays.
McMartin led a big day for the sprinters as she won the 100 with a career-best time of 12.56 while she also took first in the 200 at 26.71 with Jacie Trine (26.93) and Calla Kerndt (26.95) finishing right behind her in second and third, respectively.
In the relays, the quartet of Abby Warner, Vanderhoff, Kerndt and Trine won the sprint medley with a time of 1:53.23.
Jasmine Namminga had the best finish for the Lady Dutch in the field events, taking second in the high jump while clearing the bar at 4-foot-10.
Overall, there was a lot of improvement on the day. The Lady Dutch improved in 16 individual events and every one of their relays including the 4x800 squad of Ashley Blommers, Autumn Blink, Abbey Bogaards and Macy Schroeder, who improved their time by 41 seconds since their last meet.
The Pella boys enjoyed another competitive day of action as well.
In the field events, Kody Huisman brought home another first place finish in the shot put with a throw of 50-6.5.
Karl Miller’s time of 50.51 gave him the win in the 400 for Pella’s lone win in the individual races.
In the relays, Pella’s 4x800 quartet won with a time of 8:11.50 while Pella’s 4x110 shuttle hurdles followed in stride in the next event by winning by eight seconds with a time of 1:00.72. The Dutch would later cap off the night with a win the 4x400 with a time of 3:26.87.
The Pella boys will travel to Gilbert on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. while the Lady Dutch head to Waukee on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
