POCONO MANOR, PA. — Former Central College wrestler and current assistant coach Duncan Lee finished second at the National Wrestling Coaches Association D3 College Championships over the weekend.
The NWCA had previously hosted the Division III Wrestling Championships in Coralville in March but added a second tournament for any current Division III wrestler or any wrestler who qualified for the 2020 NCAA Division III Championships that were cancelled due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
Wrestling at 285 pounds, Lee won his first two matches by fall. He pinned Tyson Jones of Springfield College (Mass.) in 2 minutes, 18 seconds during his first match and then won by fall over Dylan Chandler of Roger Williams University (R.I.) in 2:05. He won his semifinal match over Cadin Koeppel of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in an 11-0 major decision. Mike DiNardo formerly of Johnson & Wales University (R.I.) defeated Lee 6-3 in the championship match.
Lee amassed a career record of 78-41 at Central, including a 27-6 mark as a senior in 2019-20. The Newton, Iowa native qualified for the 2020 NCAA Division III Championships after winning the Lower Midwest Regional. The national meet was cancelled and all qualifiers were given All-American accolades. Lee was a first team honoree.
Lee is slated to compete again this weekend in the 125-kilogram division of the Senior Nationals hosted by USA Wrestling in Coralville, Iowa The event is held April 30-May 2 at Xtream Arena and GreenState Family Fieldouse.
