Who: Pella (4-2, 4-0) vs Nevada (5-1, 3-1)
When: Friday, Oct. 9 at 7:30 p.m.
There have only been two matchups in recent history with Pella winning both of them. The Dutch won 52-0 in 2016 and 49-20 in 2017.
One key player for Pella
Nolan Clayberg could have a big impact on both sides of the ball for Pella. With Kody Huisman and Levi Roose likely to get a lot of attention from the Nevada offensive line, Clayberg should have some opportunities to slow down a talented Cubs offense. Clayberg is second on the team with 24.5 tackles and he should add to that total on Friday. Offensively, Clayberg has hit a nice stride in the running game in recent weeks. He’ll need to keep that up to keep Pella’s offense balanced and not too reliant on the pass.
Keys for Pella
It’s the de facto district championship game with the winner will get a first round bye in the playoffs. Pella is coming off a shutout against Bondurant-Farrar but they will face the top scoring offense in the district in Nevada. The Cubs averaged 40.5 points per game (sixth in 3A) but they have done that with one of the easier schedules in 3A. Their quarterback completes 68.3% of his passes and their running back nearly has 1,000 yards rushing and 20 touchdowns this season. The Dutch defense will have their work cut out for them, expect them to make an impact and decide how this game ends. The winner gets the district title and a week off.
