Where: Pella High School Stadium in Pella
When: Friday, Sept. 10 at 7:30 p.m.
First meeting in VarsityBound era (since 2006).
One key player for Pella
Senior linebacker Preston Rowe is coming off a big week where he tallied 8.5 tackles and helped hold North Polk to just eight points. Rowe and the Pella defense will be facing a tough Indianola offense that can beat you in the air and on the ground. Rowe will need to make good reads and have good pursuit in both areas to help either force turnovers or punts to give the Dutch a shorter field against the Indian defense.
Keys for Pella
Coming off of huge wins over Glenwood and Ankeny Centennial, Indianola has earned a top ranking in Class 4A ahead of this matchup. Hopes are high for Indianola as their offense has put up 42 and 52 points while holding their opponents under 20 points. Pella will need to be sharp on both sides of the ball to pull off the upset. The game may be won and lost in the trenches where Indianola might have the advantage with several big people movers up front. On top of that, they have a quarterback in Bennett Brueck who has completed 23-of-34 for 384 yards and four touchdowns while his top target has been 6-foot-4 wide receiver Drew Kingery, who has 13 catches for 265 yards and three touchdowns. Aidan Pollock has looked good on the ground for Pella but quarterback Blake Meyer will have another week to find that consistency and familiarity with his wideouts. It will be a tough test for the green and white as they try to knock off number one.
