Who: No. 9 (3A) Pella (0-1) vs No. 4 (3A) Harlan (1-0)
When: Friday, Sept. 4 at 7:30 p.m.
These two have met twice since 2009. Harlan won 35-14 in 2009 before Pella would win a 41-39 barnburner in 2017. Both meetings were in the postseason.
One key player for Pella
Ryan Mace and the Pella offense will need a big bounce-back performance against a very talented Harlan squad. Mace was held to 1-of-7 passing for 31 yards in the second half against Dallas Center-Grimes. The Dutch offense will try to get back on track this week and a big game from their QB would go a long way in doing that.
Keys for Pella
Two weeks and two top 10 matchups for Pella. The Dutch wanted a challenging non-district schedule and they got it as they welcome a talented Harlan team to town for their home opener. Getting the offense going will obviously be a big priority but the Cyclones bring a lethal offense that tallied 549 yards last week. Time of possession will be key as a tired Dutch defense is just what Harlan will be looking for. Harlan has three quality running backs and a sophomore QB that threw for 269 yards but also threw two interceptions. They can hurt you in the air and on the ground. Pella will try to hold them in check and hope their offense bounces back as they try to grab a big win before district play.
