Who: No. 1 (3A) Pella (0-0) vs No. 2 (3A) Dallas Center-Grimes (0-0)
When: Friday, Aug. 28 at 7:15 p.m.
Pella holds a 7-1 advantage in the series since 2010 with Dallas Center-Grimes lone win being a 10-7 victory in 2017, which the Dutch later avenged in the playoffs that year. Pella has shutout DCG the past two seasons with wins of 28-0 and 14-0.
One key player for Pella
Just look to the trenches where Kody Huisman looks to start a big senior campaign for the Dutch. These have been hard-fought games the last two years and the all-state lineman will play a role in a game that could come down to the big fellas up front. Look for the 6-foot-4, 260-pound people mover to blow up some plays defensively and create some holes for the Pella running game as well.
Keys for Pella
What a treat to start the season. How about starting the season with top two ranked teams in the class? Both teams return a lot of nice pieces from last year’s squads, both teams like to have a fairly balanced offense which should make for a fantastic game. Once again it should come down to the Pella defense, which has held scoreless and under 250 yards of offense the last two seasons. If they stay stingy, the Pella offense should have shorter fields to work with. Either way, this game has the potential for both teams to grab a huge win to start the season.
