One key player for Pella Christian

The Eagles defense has seen a couple of teams that like to sling the ball around but none quite like Underwood, who own the top spot in 1A in touchdowns, passing touchdowns, all-purpose yards and passing yards. The PC secondary will be a huge key to the game for the Eagles to pull off the upset. Underwood quarterback Alex Ravlin has completed 67.3% of his passes for 2,214 yards and 30 touchdowns against nine interceptions. He is coming off a huge performance in last week’s win over ACGC where he was 18-of-22 with 410 passing yards and a school-record six passing touchdowns while adding another on the ground. The PC secondary will face a tough challenge in slowing him down this week.

Keys for Pella Christian

Can Pella Christian prevent the big plays from Underwood? The PC Eagles need to bring that bend but don’t break approach again this week against the Underwood Eagles. With their air attack, they can strike for a big play at any moment so keeping them in front and making good wrap up tackles will force Underwood to earn every score they get. The problem for PC is they can’t sell out against the pass. This Underwood team can also run the ball as shown with their 169 rushing yards to go with their 433 passing yards last week. Underwood has scored at least 49 points and has won by at least 32 points in every game except one which was a 28-20 win over Kuemper Catholic in the regular season finale. Kuemper won the turnover battle 3-0 in that game and that will be a recipe for success for PC in this matchup. The Pella Christian offense has moved the ball well all season and they will face another team that can shift games quickly with turnovers. Underwood’s defense ranks first in 1A in interceptions (24) and defensive touchdowns (10), second in tackles for loss (98) and tied for third in fumble recoveries (13). This Underwood defense not only takes the ball away from opposing offenses but they quickly turn it into points. Ball security will be a point of emphasis for PC as they try to knock off the undefeated and third-ranked Underwood Eagles and earn a trip to the final four at the dome in Cedar Falls.
