Matchup history

The Cobras hold a 4-3 advantage over Pella Christian since 2012 with Sigourney-Keota picking up the 20-13 win on Eagle Lane last year. It was a showdown of undefeated teams in 2021 coming away with the big road win to knock off the Eagles despite not completing a pass. Instead they used 287 rushing yards with Cade Molyneux tallying 194 of those yards and three touchdowns.

One key player for Pella Christian

QB/LB Isaac Kacmarynski will be eying some redemption against the Cobra’s after last year’s close loss. S-K held him to 11-of-22 passing with one interception and three sacks (including the game ender) in that matchup in 2021. Although PC has changed to a more run-dominant offense this season, the Cobras could provide some issues there. In S-K’s two wins over the past two weeks, they’ve allowed just 22 rushing yards per game. In their two losses to start the season, the Cobras allowed an average of 296.5 rushing yards. The Eagles enter the game averaging 347 rushing yards per game with Kacmarynski being a big part of that with 519 rushing yards and nine touchdowns already this year. If he and the PC offense can continue to run wild, it will be another convincing win. But if the Cobras give him problems like last year, he may need to make a couple of big throws down the stretch.

Keys for Pella Christian

Take care of the ball and attack early. The good news for PC is Cade Molyneux has graduated and although this Cobra team can still run the ball and force turnovers (eight forced turnovers), they are not built to come from behind. S-K dominated the time of possession battle in their last matchup and were able to make things difficult for the Eagles. Nobody has been able to do that against PC so far this year. The first quarter will be very telling on how this game will go. If PC is able to continue to dominate the trenches on both sides of the ball and get a couple of scores early, expect the Eagles to continue to fly.
