Who: No. 3 (1A) Pella Christian (2-0) vs PCM (1-1)
Where: Pella Christian Field in Pella
When: Friday, Sept. 9 at 7 p.m.
Long-time foes, this series has been tight with Pella Christian holding an 8-6 advantage since 2008. PCM won three in a row from 2018-20 before PC’s 21-7 win last year. A long touchdown pass from Isaac Kacmarynski to Drew Geetings and a pair of short TD runs from Benny Schirz was enough to get it done in a low-scoring game.
One key player for Pella Christian
Linebacker Josiah Diehl has been a leader for the PC defense so far this year with already 15.5 tackles in two games. He has a great ability to fly around and make plays all three levels. He had 5.5 tackles in last year’s matchup where they held PCM to seven points. If the defense has another strong night, Diehl will likely be a big reason for that with his play.
Keys for Pella Christian
Keep doing what you’ve been doing. Pella Christian has dominated their first two games of the season and although this isn’t the PCM team that had a lot of playoff success over the past several years, this is still a team that provide some challenges to the Eagles. Defensively, PC faces an offense that was held to 13 points against Newton last week but has shown they can score with 48 points during their week one win over Davis County. As always against the Eagles this year, will the opposition be able to control the line of scrimmage? PC has run straight through their first two games to the tune of 1,038 rushing yards on 85 attempts (12.2 yards per carry) with 17 touchdowns. If the Mustangs can’t stop or at least slow down PC in that department, the Eagles will be 3-0 heading into district play.
