PELLA — A rare cool summer night in late June rolled into town as Pella Christian played host to Grinnell for a Little Hawkeye Conference doubleheader. The Tigers came out and put up double digit runs in both games to get the sweep of the Eagles 11-4, 10-5.

For Pella Christian, it was a night of falling behind early but keeping up the fight with just too big of a deficit to erase.

In game one, Grinnell on the board with a run in the first but would explode for five runs while batting around in the third inning to jump ahead 6-0.

PC was unable to string together any offense early but was able to break the shutout in the fifth inning on Anna Bonnett’s RBI single to right. The Eagles would load the bases with a chance for more but would strikeout to end the inning.

They continued the offense in the sixth inning with Jarah Morgan’s RBI single bringing Bailey Roose to the plate. Roose would put together a great at-bat before connecting on one and sending it over the left-field fence for a two-run home run. Unfortunately for PC, the Grinnell offense continued to score in the final three innings to win it, 11-4.

Roose finished the game going 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs while Bonnett and Morgan both had one RBI. Alexa Dunsbergen took the loss after allowing 11 runs on 11 hits with three walks and four strikeouts.

Much like game one, game two started with Grinnell jumping out in front with a run in the first. A couple of nice defensive plays in the second would keep the Tigers off the board with Roose touching third and throwing to first for a double play with final out coming with Faith Kacmarynski getting a wild pitch and throwing to pitcher Trinity Vos at the plate to catch the runner stealing home for the final out.

But the relentless Grinnell offense continued with three runs in the third before back-to-back blasts from Ella Grife and Kaitlyn Kriegel would put the Tigers in front 9-0 in the fourth.

PC would get one back in the bottom of the fifth on a Roose RBI single. The Eagles would continue to fight with four runs coming across to score in the sixth. Kacmarynski’s RBI single would get PC moving station to station with Morgan following with a RBI single of her own before Roose’s deep sacrifice fly to center would bring in another run with Emri Agre beating out an infield single for the final RBI.

Grinnell added an insurance run in the sixth and the seventh while hitting their fourth home run of the night on their way to a 10-5 win to complete the sweep.

Vos and Emma Eekhoff split time in the circle in the loss with Roose once again leading the offense going 2-for-3 with two RBIs while Morgan was 3-for-3 with one RBI and Agre finished with two hits and a RBI.
