PELLA — The Pella Dutch hosted Little Hawkeye Conference rival Grinnell Tuesday night and sent the Tigers back home smarting with a 92-45 blow-out loss.

The Tigers rode the hot hand of Dylan McIlrath for a 10-8 lead after three minutes of play and then it was, beep.beep, see ya. The Dutch ripped off a 22-2 run for the remainder of the first quarter and then smoked the Tigers with 28-15 second quarter outburst for a 58-27 halftime lead.

The Dutch were led by three duces by Noah Allen in the first half. That would be two threes, two two’s and a pair of free throws for 12 points. Romon Hugen added a pair of triples and Preston Rowe connected for four baskets and a free throw.

No matter what combinations Pella Coach Derek Schulte put on the floor, the scoring continued at a furious pace and early in the third period the 35-point mercy rule was in effect.

15 players got into the scoring column for Pella, led by Allen with 18 points. Karl Miller and Luke Hardman were both in double figures with 13 and 11 points respectively. Rowe and Keegan Hansen were close to double digits with nine points each. Hansen led the team on the glass with seven rebounds and Elder dished out nine assists and Allen handed out six dimes.

“We played very unselfish basketball tonight,” Schulte said. “We were aggressive and made right decisions to find open guys. We moved the ball well and we moved ourselves well. We just had a great attack mindset for this game. Playing at a fast pace is something we value and we were able to do that tonight.”

The Dutch are now 9-2 overall and deadlocked with DC-G for the top spot in the league with 5-1 records. Pella will host cross-town rival Pella Christian Friday night to complete the first round of conference play.
