MONROE — The sixth-ranked (1A) Eagles were able to erase some recent demons they had against No. 9 (2A) PCM on Friday as their previous three meetings with the Mustangs ended in losses. This time, the Pella Christian defense was smothering as they left Monroe with a 21-7 victory to improve to 3-0.
PC jumped out to a 7-0 lead after the first quarter with both teams finding the endzone in the second quarter to make it 14-7 at the break. The Eagles would get one more score in the third quarter while both defenses made things difficult the rest of the way with PCM even winning the turnover battle 3-0.
But the PC defense would hold on strong for the win. Isaac Kacmarysnki led the way with 9.5 tackles including 2.5 for loss and 1.5 sacks.
Offensively, Kacmarynski finished 6-of-8 for 135 yards with a touchdown and a pick along with 49 rushing yards. His go-to target on the night was Drew Geetings, who had three catches for 115 yards including a 68-yard touchdown.
Sophomore running back Benny Schirz led the rushing attack with 89 yards on 24 carries with a pair of short TD runs.
No. 6 (1A) Pella Christian (3-0) will open district play on Friday at 7 p.m. when they welcome Van Buren (2-1) to town.
