CORALVILLE — Central College wrestling freshman Gage Linahon (Newton) competed at the United World Wrestling Junior Nationals over the weekend and placed third in the 97-kilogram freestyle division.
Assistant coach Duncan Lee competed in the Senior Nationals and went 3-2 in the 125-kilogram freestyle division.
Competing in the Junior Nationals for ages 17-19, Linahon went 3-1 in the 10-man bracket, losing only to the eventual champion Braxton Amos in the semifinals. Amos is headed to the University of Wisconsin next season.
In the abbreviated 2021 wrestling season for Central, Linahon was 3-2 while winning twice by fall.
Lee went 3-2 in his matches over the weekend, falling one match short of placing in the top eight after losing to former NCAA Division I All-American Dom Bradley in the consolation bracket.
