PELLA — A dominant effort in all phases of the game gave the Central College women’s soccer team a 5-0 victory Thursday night against the University of Northwestern – St. Paul (Minn.).

The Dutch (3-1-0) made it three shutouts in a row against the Eagles (0-3-0). Central used 29 players, including a pair of goalkeepers.

“We always like the shutouts,” coach Mike Kobylinski said. “We had a lot of defensive players involved in that shutout.”

Five different players scored goals for the Dutch, starting with Abby Frey’s (sophomore, midfielder, Mesa, Ariz., Desert Ridge HS) strike in the 15th minute. Abby Sutberry (sophomore, Lee’s Summit, Mo., St. Michael HS) made it 2-0 with four seconds left in the first half, courtesy of a Jacie Borman (junior, forward, Eagan, Minn.) assist.

Elena Pinto (freshman, midfielder, Kent, Wash., Federal Way HS), Grace Coates (freshman, forward, Marion) and Alyssa Knuth (junior, Benton Harbor, Mich., St. Joseph HS) added goals in the second half, using assists from Frey, Rachel Daniels (junior, Geneseo, Ill.) and Amber Santana (freshman, midfielder, Indo, Calif., Shadow Hills HS), respectively.

“The theme for us this year is everybody contributing,” Kobylinski said. “We’re a tough team to scout when we’ve got 11 or 12 different players scoring. We want to keep that momentum going forward.”

Kobylinski also cited his assistant coaches Kayla Sunvold, Russ Goodman and Jeff Diehl for helping the team in its preparations this season.

Central hosts the University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh at 4 p.m. on Saturday.

“They were predicted in the top-four of the WIAC this season,” Kobylinski said. “They’re 4-0 this season and have looked solid.”
