The Pella Christian Eagles line up after introductions in a game earlier this season.

Who: Pella Christian (8-13) vs Pekin (10-9)

Matchup history

These two have only met three times since 2011 and they have all been in postseason play. Pella Christian is 2-1 in those three games, winning the most recent matchup in 2019, 66-53.

By the numbers

Pekin is 6-4 in their last 10 games and have won three in a row while Pella Christian is currently riding an eight-game losing streak. The Eagles are 0-12 when scoring 45 points or less while they are 8-1 when they score more than 45. Pekin is just 1-6 in games decided by single digits while PC is 2-4 in close games.

One key player for Pella Christian

The battle at center should be a good one in this game. Allison Van Gorp will get a tough matchup against Pekin’s Kerrigan Pope, who averages 15.3 points, 7.7 rebounds, 2.3 steals and 1.1 blocks per game. Van Gorp will have the size advantage at 6-foot-2 but will likely be the focus of the Pope and the Panther defense. She will have to work hard on both ends of the floor to clear the glass but also score in the post when she gets the opportunity for a struggling Eagle offense.

Keys for Pella Christian

Get back to an offensive groove. PC has been held under 45 points in each of their last eight games on this losing streak. They’ve battled through many different lineup changes with injuries and sickness during that stretch but they will need to get their scoring touch back in this one. Joslyn Terpstra has been filling a bigger role as of late offensively. A couple threes from her and Emri Agre would be huge. Expect a big two-way effort from Anna Bonnett as the senior guard is tied for the team lead at 2.8 steals per game. Her defense can get the Eagles going while she has the ability to chip in a handful of points offensively as well. The turnover battle will also be something to keep an eye on as these two look to grab a spot in the regional semifinals.
