Lady Dutch qualify one for state at Osky regional

OSKALOOSA — Edmundson Golf Course was host to regional girls golf on Wednesday as Oskaloosa and Pella were looking to qualify for state. Only one area girls would get through to state as Pella’s Karsyn Lyons nabbed a top six finish to qualify as an individual.

Pella finished third as a team just 16 shots of second place Lisbon for a spot at state. Lyons needed a top six finish to qualify for state and she did just that by taking sixth with a round of 86. She finished tied for 28th at state last year. The rest of the Lady Dutch lineup was Emerson Lee, who finished tied for seventh with an 89, along with Kennedy Van Vark (91) and Olivia Hood (102).

Oskaloosa finished sixth on the day with a team score of 396, which was a season-best by 26 strokes.

“I don't think an Oskaloosa team has shot under 400 in quite some time,” Oskaloosa head coach Cory Sheeley said. “We were super happy with how we played and we had five of our six girls PR with their lowest scores. However, we ended up 6th out of 11 as a team and didn't quite meet our goal, but we had a wonderful season.”

Amelia Meador is Osky’s lone senior and she finished just short of qualifying for state with her round of 89 placing her in a tie for seventh and just three shots off a state spot.

“It was an emotional day for her because it was her last golf meet and she missed her last day of high school for the tournament,” Sheeley said. “She played a great round which left us with a bunch of 'what ifs', but this will be a learning experience for her moving forward! She hasn't committed to a school yet, but she plans to play golf in college. She was a great leader and ambassador for our girls golf program and she will be missed!”

Reece Milburn (95), Libby Fenton (105) and Avree Ebelsheiser (107) rounded out Osky’s lineup.

Lyons will represent Pella at the Class 3A Girls State Golf Tournament on May 25-26 at Pheasant Ridge Golf Course in Cedar Falls.
