Oskaloosa sweeps at Grinnell

GRINNELL — The Oskaloosa wrestling team got their season started on Thursday in a quad at Grinnell and would pick up three wins with victories over Chariton (48-32), Grinnell (39-33) and Saydel (57-10).

The big highlight of the night came in the dual against Grinnell where the two teams were tied entering the final match before freshman Parker Jordan secured the win for the Indians with a pin.

Several wrestlers had winning records on the night including Maddox Maxwell (145), Talon Zickefoose (160), Trey Parks (170) and Jordan (182/195) all finishing 3-0. Ty Lorentzen (2-1), Ivan Montgomery (126), Kaiden Parker (132), Trey Miller (138), Luke Abrahamson (152) and James Wood (182/195) all went 2-1 on the night.

The Indians also have two girls out for the team this year in Raeann Elliot and Hailey Pelong. Elliot went 2-0 with two pins while Pelong was 1-1 with a pin.

Oskaloosa heads to Dallas Center-Grimes on Saturday.

Pella drops pair at Urbandale

URBANDALE — The Dutch wrestlers started their season off with a pair of tough tests on the road against Urbandale and WDM Valley. Pella would lose a close one to the J-Hawks 40-38 while the Tigers rolled to a 72-8 win over the Dutch.

The Dutch held a 38-36 lead over Urbandale entering the final match with the J-Hawks winning by an 11-3 major to secure the win. Kieran Van Voorst (220), Brayden Hick (126), Damion Clark (132), Garret Hall (138) and Rex Rhamy (145) all had wins by pin while Hunter Smith (152) won a narrow 7-6 decision and Jackson Van Kley (170) rolled to an 18-3 tech fall.

Pella was only able to pick up two wins against Valley. Van Kley picked up another tech fall (15-0) while Clark won a 7-0 decision.

Pella heads to Williamsburg on Saturday for a tournament.
