Did you get your tickets to the FREE concert at George Daily tonight? The U.S. Navy Sea Chanters will be performing. If you didn’t get a ticket in advance, you still have a chance. At the time of the performance, any vacant seats will be filled by people willing to wait in line. As of my press time (Wednesday afternoon), the Oskaloosa Herald and KBOE still had a few tickets left to give away. Hope everyone enjoys the show!
Question: Do you know how soon and where we can sign up for the 5K run in April?
For anyone who doesn’t know what this 5K run is, let me give a brief update of the event. The United Way has scheduled their 2012 Annual Live United 5K Run/Walk & Family Day for Saturday, April 28, at the PAC center at William Penn. The purpose of this day is to raise awareness of individual basic needs and the support that is offered through local non-profit agencies. The event is a great mix of activities for everyone of every age. The 5K race begins at 9 a.m. The Penn football team will host a Punt, Pass & Kick event at 10 a.m. for kids ages 4-12. The FREE kid’s races begin about 11:15 a.m. Lunch is served from 11 to 12:30 p.m. and is FREE! The Family Day events are open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
To answer this reader’s questions, the registration for the race is already open and you can register at any time. Here is the link to the site where you can pre-register: www.active.com/running/oskaloosa-ia/live-united-5k-and-family-day-2012

Question: Can you tell me anything about a community walk coming up?
Mahaska Conservation has decided to support the community walks by adding an outdoor option on the third Saturday of each month. March 17, they will meet at Cedar Bluffs Natural Area. This is an excellent time of year to have the view of the Des Moines River Valley from the trail. Cedar Bluffs is located 10 miles southwest of Beacon on G62, the gravel road just beyond the Eveland Access turnoff. I will try to keep an eye on this event, and inform you as soon as I hear where they will be going in April.
