PELLA — Two separate motorcycle crashes over the weekend in Marion County have resulted in two deaths.
On Friday evening, an Oskaloosa man lost his life after a crash in Pella. On Sunday morning, a rural Knoxville man was killed on Highway 6-40 in rural Marion County.
The Pella Police Department said 25-year-old Caleb Lafollette, of Oskaloosa, was pronounced dead at the Pella Regional Health Center after a crash on Southeast 9th Street near Roosevelt Road in Pella.
The crash was reported at 9:18 p.m. on Friday. The man was transported to Pella Regional Health Center by ground ambulance but died at the hospital from his injuries.
The crash remains under investigation, police said. The man's body was transported by the Iowa State Medical Examiner's Office in Ankeny for an autopsy.
Police described the crash as a "single vehicle" accident.
On Sunday at 6:42 a.m. a separate motorcycle crash was reported on Highway G40, about 4 miles east of Pleasantville. In that incident, 22-year-old Colton Gunsolley, of Knoxville, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Iowa State Patrol and Marion County Sheriff's Office say Gunsolley was operating a motorcycle eastbound left the road and entered the ditch, rolling several times and ejecting the driver.
Investigators said they believe it was several hours before someone discovered the crash and reported it to authorities.
The crash remains under investigation. Assisting the Iowa State Patrol and sheriff's department was the Knoxville and Pleasantville rescue units and Marion County Medical Examiner investigator.
