OSKALOOSA — The Oskaloosa Herald welcomes Tiffany McDaniel, the latest addition to the Herald’s newsroom.
McDaniel is a first-year reporter with a passion for telling stories and being a voice for the voiceless.
McDaniel said she is is very excited about joining the Oskaloosa community and serving as hard news and lifestyle staff writer.
Originally from Birmingham, Ala., she gained her experience while working as an intern at WBRC FOX 6 News, the leading news station in Central Alabama for breaking news and First Alert Weather forecasts.
McDaniel graduated from the University of North Alabama in May of 2017 with a Bachelors of Science in Mass Communications concentrating in Multimedia Journalism.
While in college, she actively served as a member of the campus’ National Broadcasting Society where she helped to produce weekly newscasts for the campus, Good Day UNA, and College Game Day: UNA Edition, a play on ESPN’s College Game Day.
Tiffany also wrote for school’s weekly publication, The Flor-Ala, covering news and lifestyle stories happening around the campus.
After graduating college, McDaniel took a break from journalism to help support her family and taught technology to second through fourth grade students at Midfield Elementary School.
“Teaching students at Midfield Elementary serves as one of the most fulfilling jobs I’ve ever worked,” she said, “but the news industry will always have my heart.”
McDaniel said becoming a reporter is a “dream come true” and she is “thrilled about having the opportunity to do what she loves in a state that she has dreamed of visiting and one day living in.”
McDaniel said she is a firm believer that through her faith in God she can accomplish anything her heart desires and she accredits that faith to have brought her here.
When she is not working, she enjoys reading, watching Grey’s Anatomy, spending quality time with her family and friends, hiking, listening to music or a great podcast and blogging.
McDaniel comes from a large, close family. She has a total of eight siblings and a host of other close relatives that she loves dearly.
McDaniel said she is extremely family-oriented
“So I am slightly homesick now that I live much farther away,” she said. “But I call and FaceTime them regularly, so that helps.”
Managing Editor Angie Holland said she was delighted to welcome McDaniel to Oskaloosa and to the Herald.
“Tiffany is enthusiastic, engaged and eager to dive into the community,” she said. “We’re looking forward and excited to see what she will bring to the newsroom and the Oskaloosa area.”
