MAHASKA COUNTY — The Southern Iowa Fair Queen candidates have been announced. The queen competition will be at 6 p.m. on Monday, July 15 at the free stage.

JEANA APPLEGET

Jeana is a 17-year-old student at Oskaloosa High School. Her parents are Mike and Cheryl Appleget. Her future plans include attending Iowa State University for interior design.

Jeana’s school activities include managing the high school girls swim team. Her community activities include visiting a preschool classroom during the school year and was an assistant for dance.

Her hobbies including cooking and baking in her free time and enjoys going on adventures with friends.

Jeana has worked at Debbie’s Merle Norman for about a year.

VERONICA BOLIBAUGH

Veronica is a 2019 graduate of Oskaloosa High School. Her parents are and is a future student of business management and a swimmer at Salem University in West Virginia.

In high school, Veronica was involved in swim team, football cheer, Iowa Honors cheer, basketball cheer, IBCA/ICCA All Star Cheer, track and field, peer helping and student council.

In the community, she has been involved in Mahaska Masters 4-H, Mahaska County teen council and Mahaska County YMCA Dolphins swim team.

She has also had time to keep seven jobs and volunteer at Oskaloosa Elementary School in classrooms and on field trips.

Veronica is certified in CPR and first aid and among her skills are childcare-related skills and child development, behavior and emotional supports, customer service, food handling and sanitation, record keeping and bookkeeping, swimming lessons, communication skills and safety compliance.

KARLEE CHANDLER

Karlee is a 17-year-old student at North Mahaska. Her parents are Dean and Kari Chandler. Her future plans include attending DMACC and majoring in Human Resources.

Her school activities include volleyball cheer, color guard, golf, softball, FFA, and is a member of the National Honor Society.

Community activities include being active in 4-H prior to her time with FFA, vacation Bible school leader, blood drive donor and volunteer worker.

Her hobbies include swimming, hanging out with friends and family as well as playing sports.

Karlee works at Scooters and Shoe Sensation.

HANNAH KOELLNER

Hannah is 18 years old and has attended Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont High School. Her parents are Jim and Kim Koellner. In the future, she plans to attend William Penn University, majoring in elementary education while minoring in reading, special education and business. While attending William Penn, she will be part of the competitive dance team.

Her school activities include color guard, football cheerleading, basketball, golf, baseball managing, junior red cross, FCA, student council, youth group, National Honor Society, FFA, and is a member of Stepping Out competitive dance team.

Hannah’s community activities include Ruritan and girl scouts, is a 2 and 3-year-old Sunday school volunteer, Southern Iowa Fair volunteer, Christian Opportunity Center volunteer, Kids Against Hunger packaging volunteer and James Elementary volunteer helping kids read.

Her hobbies and interests include being outside as well as fishing, helping on the farm, and being at the lake. She also enjoys baking, cooking and DIY projects.

Hannah’s work experience includes babysitting and is currently employed at Nutrien Ag Solutions in Oskaloosa.

GRACE MARSHALL

Grace is a 17-year-old homeschool student. Her parents are Jim and Tina Marshall. Her future plans are to finish her senior year of high school and then attend college with a focus on ministry and children with a minor in Spanish.

Her school activities include science lab classes, art lessons, bowling, college visits and monthly field trips.

Grace’s community activities include 4-H and is a current club president, a 2019 Citizenship Washington Focus trip, an active senior club member participating in community service projects, fundraisers, workshops, communications, record books, fair exhibits and county workshops.

Grace is active in church activities, including coaching and volunteer work and mission projects. She also attends the Back to Basics Beekeeping Club and serves in the Iowa Honey Producers’ Iowa State Fair booth. She is active in a variety of volunteer opportunities

Her hobbies including reading, sketching, writing, singing, baking and cooking. Her work experience includes babysitting, cleaning houses, house sitting, concessions and baking.

ADDISYN JO MCCREA

Addisyn is a 17-year-old student at Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont High School. Her parents are Jim and Carmen McCrea. Her future plans include graduating from Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont High School in 2020.

Her school activities include color guard, band, managing boys baseball, junior red cross, student council, and is an Agri-Power FFA student advisor.

Addisyn’s community activities include the Harrison Hustlers 4-H Club, Eddyville Ruritans, teen council, Central Reformed youth group.

Her hobbies include raising show pigs, community service activities, spending time with family and friends.

Addisyn’s work experience includes working at Fareway in Oskaloosa in courtesy, as a checker, and in the produce department.
