Highway 63 detour

Highway 63 southbound between Oskaloosa and Eddyville has been closed due to a sinkhole. The Iowa Department of Transportation has provided a detour for southbound traffic, highlighted in blue on the map. The closure is expected to be in effect until Aug. 7 while repairs are made.

OSKALOOSA — The Iowa Department of Transportation has closed southbound lanes of Highway 63 between Oskaloosa and Eddyville due to a sinkhole.

Southbound traffic should use Highway 23 from University Park through Cedar and Fremont, then Highway 149 to reconnect with Highway 63 near the Ottumwa airport.

The closure is expected to last until Aug. 7, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation. See updates at 511ia.org.

The Wapello County Emergency Management Agency said the sinkhole was developing near the Mahaska County Landfill.

The northbound lanes of traffic remain open.
