OSKALOOSA — The Oskaloosa Herald newsroom has a new reporter.
Channing Rucks joined the team as a full-time staff writer June 1. Raised on a farm near New Sharon, Rucks graduated from Central College this spring with a bachelor’s degree in religion.
Rucks will cover the news for Oskaloosa and Mahaska County, and also report on stories with a focus on agriculture.
“I was raised in south central Iowa and am so grateful for the opportunity to build my career here,” Rucks said. “Journalism is important to me because communities are founded on common interests or goals. Accurate, reliable information is part of what builds those goals, and journalism is the business of providing just that.”
Emily Hawk, associate editor of the Oskaloosa Herald and Ottumwa Courier, said she looks forward to seeing Rucks learn and grow in her respective beats.
“Channing brings a great enthusiasm to her role as staff writer,” Hawk said. “She has already hit the ground running, and I have no doubt she will be a great asset to The Herald, our readership and the community.”
Rucks can be reached by email at email@example.com, and her office phone is 641-676-7545.
