OSKALOOSA — The Rollin’ Oldies Car Club of Oskaloosa is holding their 22nd Annual Car Show at Oskaloosa on the weekend of July 30-31.

The show gets off to a rolling start Friday evening, July 30, with Graffiti Night in the large parking lot east of Kentucky Fried Chicken on the north side of Penn Central Mall from 6-9 p.m. You will hear ‘50s - ‘60s music while strolling through the cars or bench rodding from your lawn chairs, or maybe your name being called out for a door prize. For the Graffiti Night, the Beef Producers of Mahaska County will be serving sandwiches nearby.

Saturday, July 31, the Show-n-Shine is scheduled to start with registration at 9 a.m. on the northwest side of the Oskaloosa square. Registered participants will enjoy a relaxed day to include more bench rodding, a Poker Walk through stores, and ‘50s - ‘6Os music playing throughout the day from the center bandstand. Registered entrants can also expect a goody bag, a dash plaque to commemorate the day, door prizes, and over $1,000 in cash giveaways.

This year’s special feature at the car show is a raffle where for $20 the car show participants as well as the general public can buy a ticket that could allow you to win any one of these three items: first ticket drawn will win you the 1952 Chevy Rat Rod Pickup called the “Cruck,” and second ticket will be your choice of a more than $400 rolling tool chest from Arnold Motors, or a more than $400 Traeger Junior Wood Pellet BBQ Grill from Arnold Motors. The third ticket, of course, will win you the remaining item.

These donated items are being raffled by the Rollin’ Oldies and Oskaloosa Lions Club with the hopes of raising an extra ordinary amount of money for children’s charities of Mahaska County. The idea behind the raffle is that 100 percent of all proceeds from the sale of raffle tickets will be given to these charities. This raffle is open to the general public, so find the ticket table at either the Graffiti Night Friday evening or the northwest corner of the square Saturday to get your ticket. The drawing will take place later Saturday afternoon at the Awards Ceremony but the winner need not be present at the drawing to win and will be contacted with the information on picking the item up.

If it is not raining or reported to rain after 3 p.m., registered participants will cruise a short distance to shady Edmundson Park (see the club-built wooden truck in the wooden playground) to enjoy a free evening meal and root beer floats. Please note that the free evening meal is for registered car show participants only and requires the special meal ticket given out at registration.

Additionally, it is here that the drawing for the winner of the Rat Rod Pickup, the rolling tool box, and Traeger Jr. Wood Pellet BBQ Grill will take place and the trophies will be awarded.

Up to three trophies will be awarded for each Class for the 26 Classes from 1900 to Current Vintage, determined by participant vote, which must be completed by 2 p.m. Additional trophies will be given away to include: Best of Show, Long Distance, KBOE Pick, Under 21, Arnold Motor Supply Pick, Club Participation, and the Rollin’ Oldies “Memorial Pick” in memory of our members deceased in 2009 who are: Irv Phillips, Valerie (Mrs. Cecil) Smith, and Bob Wilson. Trophies are sponsored by Arnold Motor Supply, Oskaloosa, and built by Roger Yeager of American Pro-Graphics out of Albia.

If it is raining at 3 p.m. or predicted to rain before the trophy awards can finish, the events planned for Edmundson Park will be taking place instead in the Center Court of Penn Central Mall.

Car Show registration fee is $17 per vehicle and profits, tallied separate from the Raffle proceeds, go toward a Mechanical Scholarship at Indian Hills Community College for a local high school student, plus other local charities.
