Main Street’s Sweet Corn Serenade typically brings 5,000 people to downtown Oskaloosa for fresh cooked sweet corn.
Thursday, Aug. 5 is the date. Pie bakers are needed for the pie-baking contest. The entry fee for the pie baking contest is one pie — simply bring one pie to judge and one to sell. No cream pies, please. Get those recipes out and start baking. Plan to bring your pies to the north side of the Square at 5 p.m., with the contest beginning at 5:30. Osky Cash prizes will be given for first, second, and third places totaling $75.
Also needed are those who would like to enter the children’s pedal tractor pull sponsored by McKim Tractors, Titian Machinery and Drost Equipment. Children ages 3 – 11 must register between 5 and 6 p.m. with the pull beginning at 6 p.m.
The craft show and food vendors begin at noon. Home-grown sweet corn, Hy-Vee pork burgers, Jaarsma pie and ice cream will be served from 4 to 9 p.m. There’s musical entertainment at 5:30 p.m. by the Celebration Iowa Singers and Jazz Band followed by the Municipal Band after 8 p.m. There will be Community 1st Train rides, children’s activities by the YMCA, inflatables by Friday After Five, balloons by Terrific Tom, and more.
