Kelly O’Lear

Rock Island Arsenal Command Chaplain, Lieutenant Colonel Kelly O’Lear, and Oskaloosa native, recently received the Legion of Merit for his career of service as an Army Chaplain.

Rock Island, Ill. — Oskaloosa native, and Rock Island Arsenal Command Chaplain, Lieutenant Colonel Kelly O’Lear received the Legion of Merit for his career of service as an Army Chaplain.

The Legion of Merit is a military award of the United States Armed Forces that is given for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services and achievements.

Additionally, O’Lear was recently inducted into the Order of Martin of Tours. According to the office of the Chief of Chaplains, Major General Thomas Solhjem, “the Honorable Order of Martin of Tours is awarded to those chaplains who have demonstrated the highest standards of integrity and moral character, displayed an outstanding degree of professional competence, selflessly served soldiers and families, and contributed to the promotion of the Army Chaplaincy.”

Husband to Jennifer (nee Rozenboom) of Pella, O’Lear is retiring from military service to serve as the Director of Formation and Leadership at Nashotah House Theological Seminary in Wisconsin. He has served in combat with Special Forces, 82nd Airborne Division, 174rd Airborne Brigade, and the 2nd Infantry Division.
