OSKALOOSA — Danny Lee Shaffer, 60, was arrested following a standoff with law enforcement.

On Oct. 29 at 6:40 p.m., members of the Oskaloosa Police Department assisted members of the Marion County Sheriff’s Department and Mahaska County Sheriff’s Department with serving arrest warrants at the 700 block of Third Avenue East in Oskaloosa. Shaffer was wanted on Marion County warrants for domestic abuse assault/harassment, and violation of a no-contact order.

Officers made verbal contact with Shaffer, who refused to exit the residence. A search warrant was obtained to enter the residence and an Iowa State Patrol negotiator was requested on-scene. During the negotiation of his surrender, a noise-flash diversionary device, commonly known as a “flash-bang” was utilized, along with multiple attempts at telephone contact. At 10:40 p.m., Shaffer surrendered to police.

The resident of the house was also present during this incident and was unharmed and released without charge. Shaffer was transported to the Marion County Jail and held without bond.

A criminal charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
