LAKE RED ROCK — One has died and two others were injured after a crash Monday evening on the Mile Long Bridge.

First responders were alerted to a two-vehicle collision on the Highway 14 Bridge known locally as the Mile Long Bridge, south of Highway G28, at 6:48 p.m. on Monday.

Gary Lynn Neal, 57, of Knoxville, was pronounced dead following the crash and was taken to the state medical examiner’s office in Ankeny.

Neal was driving a 2005 Ford Escape northbound on the bridge when it collided with a 2014 Dodge Ram driven by 82-year-old Richard Gene Marshall, of Knoxville.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, the cause of the collision remains under investigation. Marshall, as well as his passenger Nancy Faye Marshall, 80, of Knoxville, were both taken by ambulance to Methodist Hospital in Des Moines with injuries.

The Iowa State Patrol was assisted by Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Knoxville Police Department and Pella EMS and Fire Department.
