The Mahaska County Board of Supervisors approved a new telephone system for the Department of Human Services office in Oskaloosa.

The supervisors unanimously chose a 14 line, 33 station telephone system from Jeffries Communications for $9,687.

The telephone system will give staff the ability to better handle their case load in a multi-county area.

The supervisors also decided to rope off a section of the DHS parking lot that is in need of repairs. The affected area is about 25 feet by 100 feet and could handle up to 10 vehicles. The supervisors will get some estimates for the cost of repairing the section of parking lot.

The supervisors also discussed a possible 28E agreement between Mahaska County and University Park to clean ditches along Burlington Road and Ninth Avenue East, which become county roads outside the University Park city limits. Board Chairman Lawrence Rouw will work with the county attorney and University Park officials on the wording of the agreement.
